Will the formulation pass down
the tube without causing a blockage?
Some liquid formulations (including those with oil bases)
are known to block tubes. For example lanzoprazole suspension
is too viscous to administer via an enteral tube. However,
if pharmaceutically appropriate, thick or viscous liquids
may be diluted with water before their administration to aid
their passage through the tube. Advice should be sought from
the manufacturer to establish this and, if appropriate, the
instructions for doing so.
