This section provides guidance on the management of patients with both long and short term swallowing difficulties (dysphagia). It is also applicable to those with PEG and PEJ tubes in situ.

Is there a non-oral alternative route of administration available?

These may include transdermal patches for nitrate administration, intra-muscular injections for anti-psychotic administration and buccal preparations for prochlorperazine, opioids and nitrates.
